    Description

    An amazing early Chicago 1880s tile remnant from Chicagoland area from a departed avid Oak Park IL collector and architect measuring approximately 6 3/4 x 1 3/4 inches. The gentleman developed a list of his artifacts and this is number 10 on the list and described in the listed picture. Other items from his collection are listed in my store.     At a time when banks usually looked like forbidding fortresses, this Art Deco-style building was given a colorful exterior covered in coins, beehives, harvests, squirrels, and other symbols of savings and prosperity. The rich imagery, sculpted by artisans of the Northwestern Terra Cotta Company, are made of a versatile baked-clay material manufactured in Chicago. It represents some of the city's finest decorative terra cotta work.
