This off-Broadway souvenir program is from the 1953-54 production, at the Barbizon-Plaza Theatre, of
The World of Sholom Aleichem,
three short Yiddish plays adapted into English by Arnold Perl. Directed by Howard Da Silva.
The show consisted of: 1- A Tale of Chelm  (a folk tale)  2- Bontche Schweig  (from I. L. Peretz)  3- The High School (from Sholom Aleichem)
The cast included Herschel Bernardi, Morris Carnovsky, Phoebe Brand, Will Lee, Diana Sands and Jacob Ben-Ami.
In addition to the Ben Shahn drawings, program includes two short essays – “The World of Sholom Aleichem” and “Yiddish Culture in English, a Review of the Production” – by B.Z. Goldberg, son-in-law of Sholom Aleichem. There is also a program for the show, (four pages, single-fold) with show credits and cast listings. (this program is stapled and bound together with the rest of pages)  Front cover has a photo of Herschel Bernardi as Mendele the Bookseller, and back cover has a photo of Sholom Aleichem. Program, 12 pages, 8 3/4 x 11 3/4 inches, is in very good condition, with small splits to covers at top of spine, small clipped corner on front cover, price written at top of first page.
