New York City and the surrounding area will see a warm-up to close out the month, with record highs in jeopardy on Halloween.
CBS News New York’s First Alert Weather team has your costume and trick-or-treating forecast.
Sunday will be the cooler half of the weekend, but with less wind and plenty of sunshine, it’ll still be quite nice for any fall activities outdoors! Expect mostly sunny skies this afternoon with high temps only in the mid to upper 50s.
Freeze watches and warnings are in effect for parts of the area Sunday night where the growing season hasn’t already ended. Temps will fall into the low 40s around the city and 20s and 30s in the suburbs (coldest in the far NW higher elevations). Make sure to protect or bring indoors any sensitive plants.
Monday is looking quiet as well with more sunshine and highs right around 60 degrees. A nice, seasonable day for late October.
Then we start a warming trend to close out the month. Temps will climb into the 70s, and even low 80s for some! In fact, records may be in jeopardy for some on Halloween. Our current forecast for NYC is 78; the record is 81.
Unfortunately, it’s another week without much (if any) rainfall and our worsening drought will continue. The only risks of a shower are Tuesday with a warm front and early Friday morning with a cold front.
As of now, chances are running very low for both at 10-20%. Any widespread, prolonged period of rain looks to still be well over a week away in early November.
So, make sure to still use caution with any open flames. Things are VERY dry out there.
